Subretinal Implant with long lifespan - a feature in the "Ophthalmologische Nachrichten", Germany

The subretinal implant RETINA IMPLANT Alpha AMS still functional after more than 50 months.

The subretinal implant RETINA IMPLANT Alpha AMS was implanted in a Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) patient in 2014 at the University Hospital Tübingen. The implant partly restores the patient’s functional vision: she can identify light sources and better orient herself in her environment. Previous statements on durability were based on laboratory tests predicting a lifetime of 4.7 years. The experience of this patient provides the practical proof that the development is on the right way.
